In prior work, we have demonstrated how insights from behavioral economics can be used to design social and financial incentive-based approaches to increase physical activity. However, combinations of these approaches have not been tested. In addition, there have been few studies using wearable devices among veterans to change health behaviors.
We designed a 20-week clinical trial engaging overweight and obese veterans to test a gamification intervention designed to enhance social incentives, both with and without financial incentives.
This study is complete and results are forthcoming.
