Jeffrey Lienert is an advanced fellow in health services research at the Penn Medicine Nudge Unit and the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) at the VA Philadelphia Medical Center. Jeff earned his PhD in social epidemiology at the University of Oxford and the National Institutes of Health.
Jeff's research focuses on the intersection of electronic medical records (EMR) and social network analysis (SNA). His dissertation combined these foci to examine how patients co-present in a hospital ward affected each other’s health through the spread of infectious agents and social influence mechanisms.
His current work at the Nudge Unit involves leveraging social networks and interventions to improve health behaviors. In recent work, he examined variation across participants in a social gamification intervention, finding a subset of participants who benefited more. He has ongoing projects examining how team diversity and loss aversion affect participants’ responses to similar gamification interventions.
